Welcome from the General Chairs

On behalf of the Executive Committee, it is a great pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC 2017), Paris, 21 – 25 May 2017. The conference has been very successful in terms of paper submissions, and the technical program committee has set up a program which features very high-quality sessions disseminating the latest research results in the field of communications and networking. In addition, the conference features an exciting industry program with 13 panels and a CTO forum, in which eminent leaders from industry, research organizations, and academic institutions will address technical and business challenges and share their vision. The conference program also includes a sizable exhibit, where several leading companies will showcase their most recent technologies, tools, and services. Before and after the main conference, which runs from Monday 22 May to Wednesday 24 May, there will be tutorials given by renowned experts and workshops on emerging and multi-disciplinary topics, on Sunday 21 May and Thursday 25 May.

The Opening Plenary from 09:00 to 10:30 on Monday 22 May, which will start with welcome addresses by the conference chairs and some guests, will feature two keynotes by eminent figures from industry. The first talk entitled “Creating New Opportunities with the FutureX Network” will be delivered by Theodore Sizer, Leader of Mobile Radio Research at Nokia Bell Labs. The second keynote will be by Georges Karam, Founder and Chairman of Sequans Communications. His talk is entitled “4G Wireless Enabling the Internet of Things (IoT)”. The plenary sessions of Tuesday 23 May and Wednesday 24 May are scheduled from 11:00 to 12:30 with the objective of increasing audience. The keynote speakers of Tuesday are Wen Tong, Head of Huawei Wireless Research and CTO of Huawei Wireless, and Alain Aspect, Director of Research at CNRS and Professor at Ecole Polytechnique. Wen Tong’s keynote is entitled “The Blueprint of 5G – A Global Standard” and Alain Aspect will address the topic of quantum information with a talk entitled “From Einstein’s Doubts to Quantum Information: A New Quantum Revolution”. Finally, the keynotes of Wednesday are “The on the Path to 5G” by Serge Willenegger, Senior VP, Qualcomm Technologies, and “Wireless Edge Caching: Promises and Recent Advances” by Giuseppe Caire, Professor at the Technical University of Berlin. We are honored and delighted to have these 6 prominent guests as keynote speakers.

We are proud to have Paris as host city for ICC 2017. This is the second time that Paris is hosting this prestigious IEEE event after ICC 2004, which was held in Disneyland Paris in June 2004. This time the conference is more centrally located: The venue of ICC 2017 is the Palais des Congrès – Porte Maillot, which is only two metro stops or a 10-minute walk away from the legendary Champs Elysées. This will allow the conference participants and their guests to fully benefit from this glamorous city.

Welcome to Paris and enjoy ICC 2017.
